Personal

Love is...

Love is...

Inspired by a personal post I wrote about a year ago called 'LIVE MORE JUDGE LESS' and the fact that today is widely known as 'Love Day'... I felt the need to write down what my take on love is...

This past November I was incredibly blessed to be able to return to a beautiful spot in the Drakensberg Mountains in South Africa together with my little sister, where we went on a family holiday about 20 yrs ago.

Live more... Judge less...

Live more... Judge less...

My parents taught me to 'be careful how you treat others as you don't know who they might become'. I'd like to go one further and say...

"Be careful how you treat others as you don't know who they were/are"

This revelation was sparked by a recent movie I watched featuring Robert De Niro called 'The Intern'. I won't say more as I don't want to spoil the movie... but it sparked some much needed reflection on the impact that strangers have had on my life when I took the chance to trust them and talk to them, without knowing who they were.

Family.... is everything...

Family.... is everything...

Driving back from a family session this weekend, I had an overwhelming feeling of being grateful. Grateful that I was given the opportunity to be surrounded by the love of two families having their photo's taken together. Grateful to witness the love between the family members and incredibly grateful... for being trusted to help them make future memories together.

And then... I was overtaken by an overpowering feeling of guilt...

Priceless Gifts - Old Photo's

Priceless Gifts - Old Photo's

The giving and receiving of any gift creates a feeling that can't be bought.

Recently, I received these from a family member. It's old images from the Second Boer War in South Africa and a wood 'viewing box' in order to see them with. It's incredible...

Each image is displayed double for ease of viewing through the wooden box and a description of the event photographed, listed on the back.

3 Female photographers who have inspired me

3 Female photographers who have inspired me

There are so many amazing photographers around the world (male and female) to be inspired by. A photographer does not have to be well known or famous to inspire or be inspiring, anyone who makes you want to be better... can claim the role :)

I have such wonderful photographer friends and industry colleagues, who inspire me every day by what they do, that my list of inspiration... is endless.

Lessons in determination

Lessons in determination

This is a heartfelt letter of thanks to each and every athlete, who competed in the World Cup Paracycling in Apeldoorn, The Netherlands, this past weekend.

It was such an emotional experience cheering on athletes who had missing limbs, difficulties with sight and other issues, flying around the indoor wooden track with the grace and speed of any world class competitor with no disabilities.

Why handwritten notes mean so much more...

Why handwritten notes mean so much more...

Any act of thanks is ALWAYS welcome, in which ever form. It let's you know that you've done something right and made a difference to someone (which is the BEST feeling ever!).

Technology makes it so easy to 'whatsapp' or FB or e-mail... but these methods are almost forgotten just as fast as they are seen.

There is something so much more romantic and traditional about displaying a handwritten card...
