On the 1st of September 2016 Rob & Hilde were married at the historic ‘Jachtslot de Mokerheide’ in Molenhoek, The Netherlands. It’s a beautiful old ‘hunting lodge’ and they were surrounded by their family and friends during an intimate wedding with what I can only describe as PERFECT weather!
I met Rob and Hilde during a Wedding Fayre at the start of this year and I was chuffed to learn that Hilde…. Was born in South Africa :)
Rob and Hilde together, are the personification of calm…. They can make anyone feel at ease and comfortable in their presence. Their love for each other is clearly visible in the way they treat each other but can also be seen through their confident and beautiful little girl, Kaitlyn.
I asked Rob and Hilde when they first met and I was informed that it was ‘about’ 16 years ago at a Riding School when Hilde just started with Horse Riding…
What started as a friendship (when they both had a horse at the Riding School that they were taking care of) grew into something a lot more meaningful, before they even realised it themselves… The people around them were starting to get curious and asked if they were in a relationship, as they could see the way that Rob and Hilde were with each other, even before they formally started dating.
On 1 March 2009, their relationship was made formal and everyone was informed :)
When talking to Rob and Hilde whilst sitting in their beautiful family home in front of a roaring fireplace, it’s clear to see that they have planned ahead for their future family life from the moment they decided to get a home together. Hilde just smiled kindly and shyly when I asked about how Rob proposed and Rob… was quite proud when I learnt about his efforts (as he should be).
In December 2015 Rob planned a weekend away to the 'Jachtslot de Mookerheide'. Rob told Hilde that he felt they needed a weekend away from the daily ‘rush’ but he was actually planning something very special...
On the 5th of December 2015 whilst at the Jachtslot, Rob went up to the tower of the hunting lodge and sent Hilde a message to meet him there. When Hilde arrived… the whole tower was lit up by candles and Rob was already down on one knee… He held out Hilde’s beautiful engagement ring and asked her THE question ‘Wil je met mij trouwen?’.
Wow… What more can a girl ask for?
Hilde immediately said ‘YES’!!! It was a ‘pakjesavond’ (gift night - on 5 Dec gifts are exchanged in The Netherlands which are delivered by the 'helpers' of Saint Nicholas) that Hilde will NEVER forget.
After this amazing proposal and experience, Rob and Hilde decided to arrange their personal and intimate wedding at the Jachtslot de Mookerheide, the place where Rob proposed. Close friends and family celebrated the day with them and a BBQ was held for neighbours and colleagues after the wedding.
All of the details of the wedding were planned by Rob and Hilde themselves. They took time and care to choose all the little things they liked to make up this special day and the flower bouquets for the flower girls… were even made by Hilde herself! The florist (Bloemenhuis JB Gommers) cleverly matched Hilde’s bouquet and the corsages with the mini-bouquets from the flower girls which Hilde had made.
Alongside the couple, Hilde’s brother (Gerard) fulfilled the important task of ‘Ceremoniemeester’, ensuring that all the details of the day ran smoothly.
The beautiful dresses worn by the flower girls, were made by Hilde’s mom (Jenny) with help from Hilde’s grandmother (Oma Raven).
Other details from the day which had special meaning to the couple were:
· Their Wedding Rings. These beautiful rings were designed by Hilde. They are not identical but you can clearly see that they belong together from the same type of leaves engraved on both.
· The Cufflinks (manchetknopen). These were a surprise gift from the bride to the groom. Hilde had them made for Rob and they contain a quote from a Coldplay song (a band which Rob is a huge fan of!):
“Cause you’re a sky full of stars, I’m gonna give you my heart”
Hilde’s beautiful dress was from Bruidsmode Charina in Stadskanaal and the groom’s suit from ROKA in Groningen.
The incredibly delicious cake (which was covered in marzipan), was made by Patisserie Strik in Nijmegen.
The tasty wedding feast was catered by Brasserie du Bois (which forms part of the Jachtslot).
A few of the suppliers they used and would like to rave about to other wedding couples planning their weddings are:
- Rozenhof trouwringen
- Janneke Visagie
- Rhea Elise (piano)
They told me that they were the most nervous about the Wedding Ceremony... In the end… it was not necessary at all… It was a stunning ceremony in which the Wedding Official beautifully told their story and explained about marriage.
An extra special moment during the wedding was when Rob and Hilde’s daughter (Kaitlyn – 1.5 yrs) together with her cousin (Bella - 3 yrs) delivered the rings during the ceremony :)
In this way, Kaitlyn formed a big part of this whole celebration and could also be involved. For Hilde… being married not only meant that she now has the same surname as Rob, but also as Kaitlyn…
Throughout the day, they had a pianist (Rhea Elise) whose beautiful music could be heard during the ceremony as well as throughout the dinner.
They danced to their first song ‘This could be the first day of our lives’ (slow waltz version) which was played by DJ Ray.
Their favorite moments from the wedding?
Rob: "Het ja-woord geven. Hiermee werden spanningen van voor die tijd en alle voorbereidingen bezegeld."
Hilde: "Als een van de laatste nummers werk 'Angels' van Robbie Williams gedraaid. Terwijl Rob en ik dansten op dit nummer kon ik alle zenuwen van de dag achter mij laten en voelde ik even weer de vonken die over sloegen waar het 7,5 jaar geleden allemaal mee begon. Super verliefd!"
Rob and Hilde’s advice to other couples planning their wedding, is to not plan out EVERY MINUTE of your day. The day will never go exactly as planned. ‘Let it go’ and enjoy this day, because before you know it…. It’s over…
Overall, Rob and Hilde describes their wedding as an intimate wedding with the people closest to them. They also remember it as a beautiful sunny day with gorgeous ceremony, a delicious dinner and a great party!
Rob and Hilde, together with Kaitlyn we wish you all the happiness in the world! Thank you for for trusting me to tell your story.
